Blog entry 5/25/11
Summer 2011 Phase 1 major success. This not complete sentence. Seems dramatic.
Jack and I set off to Red Rocks, NV about a week ago with two major goals; (1) Epinephrine and (2) Fun. Both goals were met with much splendor and fanfare (hence above claim of success). I also had some down time to read more fiction! I love fiction. Reading fiction encourages me to write words like ‘fanfare’ (once again, see above), which I don’t believe I would ever actually speak. Lame-o.
Epinephrine was my first multipitch climb about 4 years ago and I have wanted desperately to return to lead some of its glorious chimney pitches. Chimney climbing I believe is grossly under appreciated. Sometimes I find this very upsetting, but most of the time I am stoked to have the thangs to myself. I often find myself wondering how I got so freaking lucky in life. One of my many many current blessings is being in love with someone who is (almost) equally stoked on these odd rock formations. We flew up the 4 chimney pitches on the black tower shouting and showing off like kids on top of a playground. More route info will likely be posted when I finally find the cord that connects my camera and computer. Basically the other 12 non-chimney pitches, the endless ridge traverse summit, and even the labyrinth descent were nothing but good times and goofiness.
Epinephrine merely wetted our appetite for chimneys so after scoring a ‘big bro’ from fellow camper/awesome-human-being (Lee) we set out to climb Community Pillar on Magic Mountain in Pine Creek canyon which claimed to offer some of ‘the most interesting’ chimney climbing and ‘bizarre route-finding’ in Red Rocks. IT DELIVERED! Stay tuned for details and photos. At times we claimed we were in Ariel’s under the sea cavern. Other moments felt more like Fraggle Rock. Big Bro was placed multiple times and multiple moves could only be described as ‘tunneling’.
Because I do not currently have any photos from my camera I have chosen to post one from my phone that is completely unrelated.
Thank you for reading the ridiculousness.
